众所周知，音乐剧《悲惨世界》（Les Miserables）是根据法国作家维克多·雨果（Victor Hugo）的同名小说改编而成，讲述了在19世纪的巴黎，一个名叫冉阿让的男子在社会和政治动乱中，不断同各种迫害以及自己的命运作斗争以求生存的故事，以他的命运串起十九世纪法国数十年的社会波澜和人间百态。
自1985年首演至今，这部音乐剧已经演变成一个经典文化符号，在世界各地的演出都取得了巨大的成功。
